KDDI America Expanding Its Ethernet Networks Globally

KDDI America, the U.S. division of KDDI (News - Alert) CORPORATION and an Ethernet provider, recently announced collaboration with world’s three major operators of carrier Ethernet exchange--- CENX, Telx and Equinix. The move, KDDI said, was designed to expand its global Ethernet networks for enterprise and wholesale customers.

In a press release, the company explained that KDDI is going to build up end-to-end connectivity and scalable bandwidth throughout the United States and around the globe through a seamless blending of KDDI America's extensive high-speed fiber network with the initial connections located at carrier Ethernet exchanges in New York, Chicago, Virginia and Los Angeles. This blending of connections will allow KDDI America's wide variety of domestic and international business customers to access CENX, Telx and Equinix (News - Alert) Ethernet service locations. Thus, by joining the carrier Ethernet exchanges, KDDI America will be able to offer end-to-end business-class services with the highest quality levels to its customers.

“The three operators of our carrier Ethernet exchanges possess recognized ability to fully support the key attributes of Carrier Ethernet -- such as bandwidth from 1mbps to 10gbps, integrated services and reliability -- thus making CENX (News - Alert), Telx and Equinix the natural partners for KDDI America. Critical to our decision to buy and sell services via Ethernet exchanges was the vast number of reachable Ethernet service locations offered by these three carrier Ethernet exchange providers,” director of business development at KDDI America Nobutsugu Ogata remarked in a statement.

According to industry experts, the collaboration will enable KDDI to extend its network in a cost-effective manner. By providing access to world’s top Ethernet Exchanges, KDDI will be able to help its customers carry on with their businesses anywhere in the world.

Almost a year ago, KDDI America acquired 51 percent of Locus Telecommunications, Inc., a provider of prepaid telecommunication services. The transaction was expected to allow the two companies create synergy by quickly building up their scale, which should result in enhanced buying power and reduced costs. The two companies also planned to work together to bring customers more innovative, high-quality, competitively-priced products in the future, by leveraging the expertise and resources of both companies, allowing for further penetration in growing markets.
