With a recent $15.9 million buy-out deal, Zayo Group (News - Alert) ascertains its complete control over USCarrier Telecom, LLC, a regional fiber-based bandwidth services provider. Zayo previously commanded approximately 50 percent stake in the company as a result of a 2010 acquisition.

A part of the purchase price--$2.3 million –will be used to retire USCarrier's outstanding net indebtedness, Zayo revealed in a news statement.

USCarrier’s network spans the southeastern United States including Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. With this acquisition, Zayo adds some 3,700-mile regional fiber network to its already expansive fiber network, expanding its reach into some key Southeastern markets such as Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Nashville and Chattanooga. Along with the larger tier 1 markets, the network extends into 40 smaller cities, such as Macon and Savannah, Georgia and Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama.

With the USCarrier assets, Zayo Group will be able to extend connectivity into its previous island market of Nashville.

The acquisition will enable Zayo Group to bundle USCarrier’s transport services like Ethernet and Wavelengths into its IP and Dark Fiber services.

Louisville, Colo- based Zayo is committed to provide advanced Bandwidth Infrastructure solutions to its customers. To this end, Zayo Group has built up an extensive network throughout the USA, through several acquisitions. Through its recent acquisitions of AboveNet and FiberGate, Zayo Group has built up network assets that span approximately 68,500 route miles, covering 45 states plus Washington, D.C. The company has over 136,000 billable square feet of colocation space and approximately 9,000 on-net buildings, including more than 500 data centers, 500+ Points-of-Presence (POPs), and 2,500+ cell towers.

“This new network provides access to large and small cities throughout the southeastern United States. Over the last five years, Zayo has acquired and developed similar assets throughout the US along with national and regional networks that allow us to offer unique Bandwidth Infrastructure solutions for our customers,” president and CEO of Zayo Group Dan Caruso (News - Alert) said in a statement.

Zayo Group recently announced the formation of its new Research and Education, or R&E, Channel, which will focus on State Government and Federal entities connected to National Education Networks such as Internet2 and NLR, including NOAA, DREN, NASA, ESNet and other National Laboratories.
