Hurricane Sandy No Interruption for Open Data Centers' New Jersey Facility

As Hurricane Sandy swept through last week causing damage and incredible loss to much of New Jersey, one company, whose facility is located in Piscataway, went unscathed and maintained normal operations even as the storm ripped through.

Open Data Centers, which has a data center facility in the area, located 16 miles south of New York City, said its customers did not experience any outages during the hurricane as power was restored quickly to their facility.

Even while several homes and businesses were left without power in New York and New Jersey, the company’s data center facility ran on generator power throughout the event and did not face any interruptions in services as regular deliveries of fuel were provided.

“We have been receiving compliments from many customers on our handling of the situation,” said Erik Levitt, CEO of Open Data Centers.

The company succeeded in smoothly running the show by using the robust power systems including redundant generators, internally redundant battery backup systems, as well as redundant cooling systems.

In addition, the company noted that they took on additional enterprise and carrier customers who were affected by outages in the greater New York City area.

“All aspects of the systems performed as they should and we are extremely pleased with how our facilities and staff performed during this event. The nature and breadth of the area affected is unprecedented. We continue to provide services on an emergency basis to customers still affected by the storm,” said Levitt.
