CenturyLink has deployed the Infinera (News - Alert) DTN-X platform with 500 gigabit per second (Gb/s) long haul super-channels on its nationwide fiber optic backbone. The company first deployed Infinera's Digital Optical Network architecture in 2004 with the DTN platform, the first optical transport solution powered by photonic integrated circuits (PIC).

Infinera is a source of Digital Optical Networks. The company’s DTN-X platform enables CenturyLink to enhance its nationwide next-generation backbone transport network to support critical video, mobile and cloud IP services.

Matt Beal, CenturyLink senior vice president of corporate strategy – and product development and chief technology officer – said in a statement, “We evaluated the available 100G solutions for long haul optical transport and the DTN-X platform stood out. Our experience with the Infinera DTN platform has demonstrated a system based on quality, ease of use, proven technology and reliability. As a customer since 2004, we look forward to including the DTN-X as part of our next generation network and achieving the same positive results as we have in the past.”

Infinera's DTN-X delivers 500 Gb/s FlexCoherent super-channels and integrates 5 Terabits per second (Tb/s) of OTN switching per chassis, resulting in lower latency for mission-critical services while lowering the total cost of ownership of the transport network.

CenturyLink first deployed Infinera's Digital Optical Network architecture in 2004.

Tom Fallon, Infinera CEO said, "CenturyLink's selection of the DTN-X platform underscores the value of our optical transport solution for Tier-1 operators around the world. As operators upgrade existingnetworks to 100G or deploy new 100G networks, the DTN-X uniquely delivers the scale and efficiency required at the core of the world's largest optical networks."

The Infinera product portfolio includes multiple platforms: the DTN-X platform, based on 500 Gb/s PICs and 5 Tb/s of integrated OTN switching per chassis, upgradeable in the future to 100 Tb/s of OTN and MPLS switching; the DTN platform, powered by 100 Gb/s PICs; the Infinera ATN, a scalable metro WDM transport platform; and Infinera Managed Services for global service and support.
