Colocation provides various advantages to users. Since it offers shared data infrastructure, it brings in considerable savings both in terms of time and money.

Companies can also see savings on infrastructure, technology and human resources.

ViaWest, a supplier of colocation services, has officially opened its Lone Mountain data center facility in North Las Vegas. According to the company, this new data center represents the colocation industry's first ever North American Tier IV Design Certification.

Looking to provide a greener working environment in its data center and increase the level of security provided, ViaWest had started working on the Lone Mountain facility in the second half of 2012. The company was also looking to provide a higher rate of availability with its new data center.

This new data center has Tier IV designation certification, making the Lone Mountain facility fault-tolerant. It also means the data center has the company capacity to withstand unforeseen events like water leakage or fires.

ViaWest provides colocation facilities that can be changed according to the needs of the clients. The company offers various facilities lockable cages, cabinets in half and full sizes, and private suites.

“We are excited to open such an amazing facility," stated Michael Vignato, ViaWest regional vice president and General Manager, Nevada/Southern California. "Las Vegas is an excellent location, with low risk for natural disaster and an arid climate that contributes to this facility reaching an expected Power Use Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2 – one of the lowest in the industry. Many of our customers now ask specifically to be part of Lone Mountain, wanting to take advantage of the availability and sustainability that it offers.”

Recently, the company announced that it achieved the Cisco (News - Alert) Cloud and Managed Services Advanced Certification.
