KDDI America Inc., the U.S. division of KDDI (News - Alert) Corporation, a Global Fortune 500 company and major player in international telecommunications services, has expanded its metro network in West Coast areas.

The KDDI network will connect between the major data centers on the West Coast such as TELEHOUSE Los Angeles, Equinix LA1 Los Angeles, Equinix SV8 Palo Alto (News - Alert), and Equinix SV1 San Jose.

Officials with KDDI America said that by connecting the metro networks between these data centers, the company can provide Internet or Ethernet services as a very cost-effective solution to their customer base.

"In the past year, KDDI America has seen a heightened demand for connectivity over wavelength services from several industries such as software providers, entertainment and media firms," said Sandra de Novellis, director of marketing at KDDI America, in a statement.

"KDDI America meets its customers' needs by allowing them to expand their network seamlessly from Los Angeles to San Francisco and beyond by connecting them to the International Gateway (News - Alert)," said Sandra de Novellis.

TMCnet in January reported that KDDI America announced collaboration with three major operators of carrier Ethernet exchange--- CENX, Telx and Equinix. The move, KDDI said, was designed to expand its global Ethernet networks for enterprise and wholesale customers.

In a press release, the company explained that KDDI is going to build up end-to-end connectivity and scalable bandwidth throughout the United States and around the globe through a seamless blending of KDDI America's extensive high-speed fiber network with the initial connections located at carrier Ethernet exchanges in New York, Chicago, Virginia and Los Angeles.

This blending of connections will allow KDDI America's wide variety of domestic and international business customers to access CENX (News - Alert), Telx andEquinix Ethernet service locations. Thus, by joining the carrier Ethernet exchanges, KDDI America will be able to offer end-to-end business-class services with the highest quality levels to its customers.
