Blackfoot Telecommunications Chooses Optelian 40-Channel DWDM

Optelian, a designer and manufacturer of optical transport systems, revealed that its LightGAIN 40-channel DWDM system has been deployed by Blackfoot Telecommunications Group.

Blackfoot Telecommunications started its service as a rural telephone cooperative in 1954 and today, the group stands as the largest private Vo IP network in Western Montana, with four companies offering state-of-the-art telecommunications services to nearly 20,000 customers.

As the company was experiencing increased customer demand for new 10 Gbps and GbE services and as its existing fiber ring was nearing exhaust, the company believed that by deploying the LightGAIN 40-channel DWDM system, it can quickly add additional capacity.

"Optelian (News - Alert) gave us outstanding support during test and turn-up," said Frank Creasia, VP of Network Operations at Blackfoot Telecommunications Group, in a press release. "Optelian provided quick delivery and training of our personnel made the installation and subsequent channel additions very easy.”

A significant advantage of the LightGAIN is its building-block architecture; optical network functions and system intelligence are packaged in standard plug and play modules. As a result, both the companies believe that network designs can now be quickly and easily configured for any application.

Dave Mills (News - Alert), VP of Sales at Optelian, noted that the additional capacity of the LightGAIN DWDM system facilitated the quick and easy activation of a GbE circuit request soon after installation.
