Hibernia Atlantic's Transatlantic Cable Shows High Usage by Financial Firms, Exchanges

Hibernia Atlantic, a provider of a diverse transatlantic high-bandwidth cable, announces that it has seen an amplified usage of its Global Financial Network (GFN) for transatlantic low latency connectivity by global financial firms, as well as an increase in exchanges.

The GFN, which is built for “security through diversity” exclusively for financial firms, connects key financial cities with its short, direct routes, according to company officials. ACTIV Financial, members of the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange and the Montreal Exchange are among the banks, exchanges, trading houses and marketing providers that use the GFN’s various routes to securely access global markets.

Since it is built upon Hibernia Atlantic’s (News - Alert) 24,000-kilometer fiber optic transoceanic cable, the GFN provides very low latency interconnectivity between major financial cities, including Chicago, Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Newark, New York, Paris, Slough and Toronto. Firms seeking to gain competitive advantage in today’s aggressive market can benefit from the high-performance GFN, which provides “diverse, reliable, high-capacity routes” for these organizations, according to company officials.

In this market, financial organizations and traders have required low-latency connectivity for their execution venues and exchanges, and GFN delivers this with its direct, low latency connections and five-day guaranteed turn-ups, said Hibernia Atlantic officials. A truly secure connection is achieved by GFN’s diverse, alternative routes that bypass existing congested waterways and back-hauls.

With tenacity to push the envelope, Hibernia Atlantic sought to explore, create and deploy advanced network technologies for the GFN. “From low latencies, fast turn-ups and diverse routing, our team understands the need for securing every advantage possible for our financial customers,” said Eric Gutshall, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Hibernia Atlantic. “With network innovation, we are helping firms communicate and trade more efficiently.”

Hibernia Atlantic just recently announced that it would build Project Express, the lowest latency transatlantic connection from New York to London with latency under 60 milliseconds. Expected completion date is summer 2012.
