USSI will use Fiber-Optic Sensor Technology to Manufacture Seismic System

By Carolyn J Dawson

US Seismic Systems, Inc. specializes in providing industry-leading fiber optic sensing solutions to the security and energy markets. These solutions have been specifically designed to replace legacy electronic systems with more accurate, reliable and cost-effective means of detection and recovery.

In a release, USSI’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Andersen said that the company was offering a cost-efficient optical fiber solution that delivers a substantially better performance. He also said that a recent order received from an oilfield services firm will enable the company to couple its fiber-optic experience with the field experience of service companies.

John Moore, the chief executive officer of Acorn Energy, said that USSI has developed the sensor technology to address the four-dimensional seismic revolution. Moore went on to say that the company’s sensors offer critical real-time information for geologists to enhance the yields from reservoir activation and that the sensors can be embedded permanently in reservoirs.

Based on a recent report from the WorldWatch Institute, 75 percent of the oil reserve additions came from extensions and revisions of known accumulations. Companies that make use of the reservoir activation require more seismic data to expand reserves ahead of increasing demand. USSI has expanded its staff and has moved into a 21,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in California, in order to address the growing need for production.

US Seismic Systems, Inc. designs, integrates, manufactures, and sells fiber optic sensing systems and solutions for the energy and defense markets. The company is located in Los Angeles and is currently the only fiber optic sensor company dedicated to “User-Friendly Systems Development,” specifically to deliver, robust, cost-effective solutions that are easy to operate, requiring no special knowledge to use or operate.
