Agilent (News - Alert) Technologies, a company that designs and manufactures electronic and bio-analytical measurement instruments and equipment, announced the availability of Agilent U1810B, a USB-powered, single-pole double-throw coaxial switch, operating from DC to 18 GHz, that can offer system-design and manufacturing engineers a long-operating-life solution with convenient RF switching.

“Excellent RF characteristics, simplicity and flexibility are key features today's engineers look for in a test system,” Keng-Boon Oh, general manager of Agilent's Microwave Test Accessories Operation said in a press release.

“Our new U1810B presents a unique combination of outstanding RF performance and convenient USB connectivity, making it well suited for system design and manufacturing test engineers in communications and component test,” Boon Oh added.

As indicated, the new coaxial switch supports the standard plug-and-play functionality of typical USB devices, eliminating the need for additional power adapters or drivers, and simplifying setup. Also, a button on the switch will allow users to toggle the signal path between two output ports without using the software interface.

Agilent believes that these new capabilities will help engineers design switch matrices for telecommunications and electronics/semiconductor manufacturing applications.

Key benefits of the U1810B are that it is designed to deliver excellent performance, guaranteed five-million-cycle operating life and guaranteed 0.03 dB insertion loss repeatability. Moreover, the long operating life will help reduce the cost of test and ensures reliability of the test system throughout its life. Additionally, the switch's exceptional insertion loss repeatability will help minimize system measurement uncertainty, while maximizing test throughput, clarified Agilent.

The U1810B's front panel provides an alternative software control interface. Users will also be able to control the switch using various software platforms such as C, LabVIEW or VEE.

Agilent's new U1810B USB coaxial switch is made available for a price of $1,300.

Agilent said it will demonstrate its new U1810B USB coaxial switch, along with solutions at IMS 2012/IEEE (News - Alert) MTT-S, an event held in Montreal, Canada.

The company recently announced that its long-term relationship with AMCAD Engineering has been extended to include a technology partnership for services related to nonlinear design and measurement of new electronic devices. AMCAD uses Agilent's Advanced Design System with simulators for nonlinear modeling.
