Equinix (News - Alert), a provider of global data center services, will be providing connectivity options to the BATS Global Markets’ secondary data center facility in Chicago.

BATS Global Markets is an operator of securities markets in the U.S. and Europe and the BATS BZX Exchange, BYX Exchange and BATS Options trading platforms are accommodated in a data center in Weehawken, NJ. The BZX Exchange, BYX Exchange and BATS Options secondary data center is in Chicago, IL.

BATS began to additionally accept connections in the Equinix CH1 data center located at 350 E, and Cermak as its secondary data center.

The Weehawken facility was proclaimed a “primary” or “hot” site and the Chicago facility being the “secondary” or “warm” site. In addition to providing disaster recovery for all of BATS’ U.S. markets, the secondary facility in Chicago provided live market data, accessible via an Equinix cross-connect.

“We’re excited to partner with Equinix to provide trading participants with connectivity to U.S. markets at our new secondary data center facility in Chicago, scheduled to be fully active in August,” said Chris Isaacson, chief operating officer for BATS Global Markets. “We aim to allow our members maximum flexibility in accessing our exchanges. The Equinix data center in Chicago provides a rich ecosystem of trading participants and cutting-edge connectivity options, which will enable participants to cost-effectively cross-connect to our secondary facility in Chicago.”

Equinix exclaimed that the five Equinix IBX data centers in the Chicago-metro area offer a full array of premium data center and support services with extensive network choice and the ability to interconnect to partners and customers across the digital supply chain.

The experience with global exchange deployments allows Equinix to anticipate and serve the unique needs of the electronic trading community, and BATS will be receiving redundancy, security and connectivity options from its colocation facilities.
