Champion ONE Deploys NDDW Product and Service Line

Ohio-based third-party optical transceiver manufacturer, Champion ONE (News - Alert), has just made available its Next Day Dense Wave (NDDW) line of 10G XFP transceivers.

The company’s mission is to eliminate some of the hassle involved in building out dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) networks. When a company sets out to build a series of dense wave connections, the waiting period has been at a static eight to 12 weeks, which, needless to say, can be irritating.

Perhaps the foremost cause for such slow shipping time is the tuning process. Usually, the company ordering DWDM optics doesn’t have the proper set of tools to adjust the frequency of the device. The manufacturer therefore has to fine-tune everything exactly how the customer needs it. This was the easiest process, until now.

“Being able to turn up a DWDM circuit in a timely manner is a huge problem for service providers and we wanted to help solve that problem,” said Bob Cromleigh, director of sales at Champion ONE. “As bandwidth demand continues to grow at an exponential rate and 10Gb/s services accelerate, the build out of DWDM networks is a trend that we don’t see slowing down anytime soon. As a result, our innovative NDDW solution will help our customers meet their growth targets, while allowing them to maintain the QoS standard that their customers have come to expect.”

Champion ONE’s NDDW XFP modules are configured and shipped in just one day, meaning faster setup time and more bandwidth for everyone.

The modules are geared toward metro ethernet, mobile backhaul and long haul applications, run on the 50GHz range and support up to 10G connections from Wi-Fi to full-fledged fiber networks.

For network operators, digital optical monitoring (DOM) is readily available so they can monitor XFP parameters in real time and watch over operations like optical input/output power, temperature, laser bias current and transceiver supply voltage.
