Zayo Forms New Research and Education Channel
By Raju Shanbhag
Zayo recently set its eyes on the research and development field, announcing its new Research & Education (R&E) Channel. The Channel will concentrate on State Government and Federal entities connected to National Education Networks such as Internet2 and NLR, including NOAA, DREN, NASA, ESNet and other National Laboratories.
Zayo provides deep coverage and advanced fiber-optic network to cater to the diverse communications needs of its users. The company partners with carriers and businesses that need a large and growing share of bandwidth to develop fiber-based, high-bandwidth solutions to cater to specific requirements.
Brian Proffit will be the Channel Director for this team. Apart from having served as a member of Zayo's stimulus team, Proffit has been concentrating on research and education within the Mid-Atlantic Region for the past four years at Zayo.
As part of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) program, he worked with various R&E Regional Optical Networks. Proffit has also been operating as Zayo's ambassador to Internet2 since they joined in the fall of 2011, the company stated in a news release.
“Given the very high bandwidth demand of some research applications, we believe there will be great opportunities to partner within the research and education community," stated David Howson, president of Sales and Customer Management for Zayo. "With our dedicated team, we will be better positioned to understand the needs of this community and therefore better support the Regional Optical Networks.”
Recently, TMC’s (News - Alert) Amanda Ciccatelli reported that the company expanded its network in the greater Denver area. The fiber build will also cover Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder and Colorado Springs. This fiber expansion will strengthen Zayo's presence in the Central Business Districts and the Denver Technology Center. The company’s 521-route mile Denver expansion offers considerable support to the area's largest industries.
