AppliedMicro Announces Two Millionth 10G OTN Port

The TPO series of SoftSilicon OTN processors from AppliedMicro (News - Alert) offer mapping, multiplexing, and cross-connection of packet and TDM clients for transport over OTN networks. They map any client type and rate into right-sized ODU containers including mapping to ODU0 and ODUflex. Covering applications from transponders to large ODU cross-connects. Add-drop mix, the SoftSilicon OTN processors range in bandwidth from 2.5 Gbps to 100 Gbps.

Recently, the company announced that it has shipped two million 10G Optical Transport Network (OTN) ports to system providers, who are looking to quickly expand the capacity of metro and core network infrastructure. Showing an acceleration of the adoption of OTN to cater to the growing requirements for an increasingly connected global society, the company reached the milestone less than 18 months after it achieved one million 10G OTN port shipments on March 7, 2011.

AppliedMicro is one of the early pioneers of OTN and first started shipping 10G OTN products in 2004, the company stated in a press release.

“The demand for 10G OTN is growing at a healthy rate, creating a sustainable market where technology advances at the same pace,” said Francesco Caggioni, AppliedMicro’s director of Strategic Marketing. “The milestone of two million OTN ports shipped allows AppliedMicro to maintain its leadership in this market. As demand remains high for our 10-Gigabit solutions in both the transponder and LAN/WAN/OTN Carrier Ethernet markets, our 40G and 100G OTN solutions are now in customer labs.”

Recently, the company announced the world's fastest CMOS transmitter ICs for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing line-side applications. According to the company, these ICs support power-efficient, inexpensive installations in 100-Gigabit per second optical metro, regional and long-haul networks. AppliedMicro's S28032 DQPSK Mux chips pave the way for wide-scale deployment in 100G DWDM Optical Transport Networks (OTN) with line rates up to 31.8Gbps per channel.
