Unite Private Networks Builds 85 Mile Fiber Network for Richmond County School DistrictUnite Private Networks (UPN), a provider of high-bandwidth, fiber-based communications networks, announced it has completed an 85 mile fiber-optic network built to serve the Richmond County School District, located in Augusta (News - Alert), GA. The new network will provide Richmond County School District students with a robust communications infrastructure and help facilitate state-of-the-art classroom technology applications and tools, said Kevin Anderson, CEO of UPN. "This was the smoothest implementation we have ever been through," said Rob Jankus, Richmond County School District's director of Information Technology, in a statement. "UPN was great to work with!" Based in Kansas City, MO, UPN delivers high-bandwidth, fiber-based communications networks and related services to schools, governments, carriers, data centers, hospitals, and enterprise business customers located in 18 states. The company delivers dark and lit fiber, private line, metro-optical Ethernet, Internet access, data center services, and other customized solutions. Recently Unite Private Networks also announced it has signed an agreement with Zito Media to acquire an 838 route mile fiber-optic network covering southeast Nebraska and the transfer of certain customer contracts. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition of the Zito network and customers allows UPN to continue to add coverage and capabilities in the Nebraska market, according to Anderson. UPN has already partnered with Zito to provide services to multi-site customers. The integration will be seamless and will have no impact on existing customer service, according to company officials. In another significant announcement, recently UPN appointed Jason Adkins as senior VP Sales and Marketing, who will assume overall leadership of sales, business development, and marketing activities at UPN. Adkins will focus on expanding the strong market position UPN has developed with K-12 schools, continuing to develop our core Central U.S. markets, adding targeted new markets, and further developing its carrier relationships, particularly into wireless carrier fiber-to-the-tower opportunities.
