Cherokee Communications Selects Zhone Technologies
By Raju Shanbhag
Demands on access networks are increasing at an alarming rate, and this has necessitated a clean-sheet approach to a truly scalable multi-service architecture. With non-blocking capacity of up to 3,600 100Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet subscribers per chassis, Zhone's MXK intelligent terabit access concentrator showcases this new approach.
Recently, the company announced that it is working with Cherokee Communications, a telecommunications provider in Southeast Oklahoma, to improve the service provider's network and support delivery of inexpensive triple-play services to residential and business subscribers.
The increasing customer base of Cherokee Communications' required an upgrade of its network. The Zhone MXK platform provides excellent flexibility and scalability; Zhonbe facilitates network and service upgrades with the ability to offer Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and VDSL2 connectivity and this has been repeatedly demonstrated in similar projects throughout North America.
“Like several of our other domestic customers, Cherokee Communications benefits from the full range of delivery mediums that can be deployed side-by-side in the MXK, limiting the cost of network upgrades and ongoing broadband deployments," explained Brian Caskey (News - Alert), chief marketing officer for Zhone.
Adding, "Flexibility and ease of use are two of the core MXK functionalities that resonate with service providers, and ones that have helped make us a leading provider of fiber solutions in North America.”
Recently, the company introduced its new zNID 24xx Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) at the annual FTTH Conference in Munich, Germany.
