By Mini Swamy
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) awarded a task contract, evaluated at $20 million, to CenturyLink Inc., to provide VoiP services to GSA Region 8, the Rocky Mountain region.
Over the next five years, GSA Region 8 offices throughout Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah, will be provided with both hosted and premises-based VoIP solutions from CenturyLink.
CenturyLink has achieved considerable success in its previous contracts with GSA Region 8 by providing Centrex and business voice services for a number of decades. The fact that it has been awarded yet another contract by GSA 8 is testimony to the company's growing significance in the public domain.
GSA is dedicated to meeting customers’ needs at all levels and the current award has been completed under the GSA Networx Enterprise contract.
The award of the Networx Enterprise contracts ensures providing superior telecommunications services from the best American companies at the best prices available in the marketplace.
The Networx program is stated to be largest telecommunications contract vehicle ever awarded by the federal government. The core services provided by all Networx contracts include the IP, security and management services necessary to design and deploy advanced IP networks.
CenturyLink, stated to be the third largest telecommunications company in the United States, is well known for its voice and managed services in local, national and select international markets through its high-quality advanced fiber optic network and multiple data centers.
CenturyLink recently announced that it will accept $35 million offered by the Federal Communication Commission from its Connect America Fund. The money will be used to deploy broadband service to 45,000 homes in un- serviced rural areas throughout the country, while in Wyoming the company will receive almost $75,000 in CAF Phase I funding to bring broadband service to 100 homes.
