ZTE's National Datacast Gets Network Approval for MediaLink
By Anshu Shrivastava
ZTE (News - Alert) Corp. has announced that its National Datacast, a national provider of point-to-multipoint digital media connectivity, has successfully integrated and gained network approval for MediaLink, a low-cost network communication device.
A hybrid device, MediaLink integrates an ATSC TV receiver with a MC2718 PCI (News - Alert) Express Mini Card from ZTE, providing a comprehensive connectivity solution. It has been designed to “efficiently” extend the reach of National Datacast’s wireless network to multiple digital signage players within one location.
Company officials said it reduces expense as well as increases flexibility with a single integrated antenna and DTV tuner.
“MediaLink is an affordable, practical solution designed to address our customers' needs - extending the reach of network coverage to devices within buildings or structures that would otherwise not have sufficient signal to receive the data, or require cumbersome and invasive installations within the customer environment.” said Kristin Francis, director of sales and marketing at National Datacast.
National Datacast leverages the ZTE MC2718 EVDO CDMA module to provide a comprehensive connectivity solution to end users. Moreover for the module, ZTE has an aggressive pricing structure, which ensures that MediaLink is delivered at significant savings to National Datacast customers.
Additionally, to provide two-way maintenance support, MediaLink can be configured via wireless communications with the ZTE MC2718 PCI module, leveraging communication capabilities of the nation’s CDMA network.
A CDMA EVDO Rev A embedded module, ZTE’s MC2718 PCI Express Mini Card can be integrated into laptops, tablets, routers, M2M hosts and other devices for 3G mobile data applications. Company officials said it’s powered by the Qualcomm (News - Alert) MDM6085 and offers high performance to the user on CDMA EVDO Rev A bands 900/1900 with fallback to 2G.
And with MediaLink, the receiver antenna can be placed for optimal signal strength in a convenient location, eliminating the need to be hardwired to the media player located across the room.
MediaLink supports IP multicast distribution, similar to satellite, and is no need for special software to stream content over the industry standard LAN interfaces.
ZTE is a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions with a comprehensive product range covering virtually every telecommunications sector.
Recently, Cricket Communications (News - Alert) and ZTE announced the upcoming availability of the ZTE Engage.
