Equinix Joins PT DCI to Deliver Data Center Infrastructure, Colocation Services in Indonesia
Equinix (News According to officials, this collaboration will expand Equinix’s data center presence in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes centers in Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, and Shanghai. “There is significant demand for next generation data centers in Indonesia as a result of exponential growth in data and network traffic,” said Clement Goh, managing director at Equinix South Asia. “We are pleased to partner with PT DCI in Indonesia to meet demand in the market. This partnership is aimed at strengthening Equinix’s unique proposition as a global data center services provider by extending operations into one of Asia’s fastest-growing markets.” According to officials, the Indonesian market is large and growing significantly in the Southeast Asian region. Also, the government is taking steps to develop the economy by making infrastructure investments and supporting growth. Frost and Sullivan announced that Indonesia has the highest number of Internet users in the region and the Internet growth is phenomenal witnessing 400 percent growth within a period of five years. Adoption of mobile Internet is also significant here. PT DCI will leverage the partnership with Equinix to build and run a new colocation facility in Jakarta, Indonesia. This data center will deliver colocation, interconnection, support and monitoring services to both local and global customers as part of Platform Equinix. Platform Equinix will enable Indonesian customers to access a comprehensive ecosystem of networks covering over 4,000 enterprises, cloud, digital content and financial companies. The Jakarta facility is expected to have a capacity of about 65,000 gross square feet, which will be developed in multiple phases. After completion of first phase expected to be over by first quarter of 2013, the facility will have 1,250 cabinets. Equinix will also gain as its global customers can now extend their market reach to Indonesia.
