Fiberhub Selects Noction for Its Intelligent Routing Platform
By Miguel Leiva-Gomez
Fiberhub is one big, busy beaver providing several colocation and network services that deal with heavy traffic applications such as streaming media on a daily basis. Along with this, it also lends out some of its bandwidth to hosting service providers for shared plans, which sometimes could amount to several gigabytes per second of data transfer. These kinds of high-bandwidth environments require traffic lights, junctions, stop signs, and crosswalks all over the place. In other words, Fiberhub needs a proper routing solution.
Until now, Fiberhub's been optimizing its border gateway protocol (BGP) routing environment manually to prevent any slow-downs in its customers' servers. BGP is one of the Internet's core protocols for ensuring the smooth flow of data to its destination without any significant hiccups that can ruin people's days. Because packets jump from one place to another constantly, much like how airplanes take multiple stops before arriving at their destinations. BGP allows network packets to take the path of least resistance, hopping very few times to reach a destination across the world. But BGP isn't the brightest crayon in the box. Networking is a lot more than finding out how to route a packet and then finding the shortest route it can pass. When a large amount of traffic hits a certain route, BGP still routes the packet there, making it stay in line behind other electrical signals waiting to arrive at their destinations. This causes packet loss in many instances.
And here's where Fiberhub selects Noction Intelligent Routing Platform as its new network management solution. Noction IRP not only finds the shortest path to a destination, but also finds out whether the paths are congested. This whole process happens automatically, turning it into a sort of sophisticated route advisor for all packets travelling on the road. Added to this, Noction IRP helps Fiberhub find problem areas in the network and solve them very quickly by pointing them out. IRP reporting will let Fiberhub's engineers see the network's health in real time, with details on packet loss and latency.
"Deploying the Noction IRP platform has made a tremendous difference in the workload necessary to keep our network performance at the high levels our customers expect," said Rob Tyree, VP of Fiberhub. "Instead of making constant adjustments to our BGP routing configuration as was necessary in the past, our technicians now have a single tool they can rely upon for network performance monitoring and automated adjustments. In addition, we are seeing far fewer support requests related to network performance, which further increases the value that the Noction IRP platform brings to the table."
