Cogeco Acquires Atlantic Broadband

Cogeco Cable Inc., a telecommunications corporation and hybrid fiber coaxial cable operator in Ontario and Québec, recently completed the acquisition of Atlantic Broadband from ABRY Partners, a company that operates cable systems in Western Pennsylvania, Southern Florida, Maryland, Delaware and South Carolina.
Atlantic Broadband was formed in 2003 and is named the 12th-largest cable television system operator in the United States. It operates certain cable systems in Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, South Carolina and New York in four main clusters: Western Pennsylvania, Miami Beach, Maryland / Delaware and Aiken, South Carolina.
As a result of the acquisition, Cogeco Cable is now serving more than 2.45 million primary service units (PSU) in Canada and in the United States.

There are sizable opportunities for growth, including increasing the penetration of the small and mid-sized business segment and maximizing the bundling potential of services in the residential sector,” said Louis Audet, president and CEO at Cogeco Cable. “I am very pleased to confirm that Ed Holleran, one of Atlantic Broadband's Founders, will continue to lead our U.S. operations team as CEO. I would also like to welcome all Atlantic Broadband employees to the extended Cogeco family."

In related news, Cogeco Cable is expanding its high-definition HD TV programming lineup to reach up to 150 HD channels in the majority of its Ontario market. Cogeco HD customers now have access to up to 150 HD channels to choose from, including 66 new ones with the best of youth programming (Disney (News - Alert) XD HD, Cartoon Network HD, Teletoon HD, ABC Spark HD), sports programming (Sportsnet World HD), movie programming (TMN Fest HD, TMN Encore 2 HD), lifestyle programming (Travel&Escape HD, food Network HD), and much more.
