Telx Increases its Investment in Pacific Northwest Region
By Mini Swamy
Telx is growing, evident as it continues to strategically expand to allow new and old clients to grow and expand their services.
As a testament to its growth, it increased its investment in the Pacific Northwest.
On the heels of unveiling its new SEA 1 facility in Seattle, the global provider of data center and interconnection services strengthened its foothold in that region by opening a second facility in Portland, Oregon.
Called PRT1, this new facility, stated to be the 13th major U.S. market for Telx, is expected to advance the baseline for “high-density” retail colocation, according to officials.
"With nine major carriers within reach of the facility and three major cable landing stations within one mile, PRT1 provides an impressive expansion of our West Coast capabilities," said Eric Wick, vice president of sales at Telx.
PRT1 is located in Hillsboro, OR and is just 15 miles from downtown Portland. It has an indoor air containment system that cools the server, and doesn't allow heat to build up in the center. It can handle power-demanding applications and supports client loads of 325 watts per square foot, and boasts a full 2N+1 UPS design.
A single storey structure, PRT1 can be expanded by another 20,000 square feet if required. With a building footprint of 52,000 square feet, it provides in excess of 18,000 square feet of whitespace.
Together with its Bay Area facilities and the recent SEA1 facility, PRT1 provides both the ideal location for clients to reach Asia, as well as the conditions needed to address the power consuming needs of gaming, media and other SaaS (News - Alert) applications and services.
Telx is servicing 13 U.S. markets with facilities spread across New York, Chicago, Dallas, California, Pacific Northwest and other cities.
"Tethering the PRT1 facility with Telx's expanding portfolio of interconnection products such as Datacenter Connect and Metro Connect back to important Portland carrier hotels, quickly make it a core regional asset,” added Wick.
Telx is integrating its customer portals, expanding its EtherConnect offer and enabling interworking between EtherConnect and other services, letting customers at its locations connect with others at the sites to develop business partnerships that allow them to tap into new markets.
