Visitors to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES (News - Alert)) in Las Vegas got to see live demonstrations and displays of networks delivering multiple high- definition streams related to the HomeGrid Forum. These showed off some of the newest home networking trends and designs.

“This year’s CES has given us the opportunity to showcase the latest developments in G.hn (Gigabit Home Networking),” Matt Theall, president of the HomeGrid Forum, explained in a statement carried by TMCnet.  G.hn is a “unified coaxial, phoneline, powerline, and plastic optic fiber home networking technology,” the forum said.

“Now that certification of silicon is well under way, the system companies are really making every effort to get their designs ready for certification,” Theall added. “Our focus is now increasingly on being able to demonstrate the benefits of G.hn in terms of its capabilities and advanced features in real world field tests, while ensuring our multi-vendor silicon and system eco-system is well recognized throughout the industry for its strength in numbers. This year at CES we are demonstrating that G.hn is the wired home networking technology to use from now on. It is real, it is ready to deploy, and it is the best over any wire.”

Also, the G.hn ecosystem featured solutions from Comtrend, Marvell (News - Alert), Metanoia, Sigma Designs, Tangotec and Xingtera. Also on display were home networks with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Neighboring Domain Interference Mitigation (NDIM).

The HomeGrid Forum said G.hn is based on standards developed by the UN’s International Telecommunications Union - Telecom (ITU-T).

Another important announcement was made at the CES by the HomeGrid Forum relating to the second generation G.hn chipset, according to TMCnet. It was the setting to launch Sigma Designs' (News - Alert) second generation G.hn chipset. The Sigma Designs CG5200 line of chips will provide the foundation for networked entertainment such as Triple Play and IPTV (News - Alert) over power line, coax and phone line. The CG5200 should be in volume-level production by Q2 of 2013.
