Texas is about to receive a significant renovation to its regional network infrastructure. On Janurary 9, fiber optic network professionals at FiberLight (News - Alert) LLC announced that they will install and upgrade parts of Central and East Texas’ fiber optic network.
Georgia-based FiberLight has “installed more than 500,000 duct and fiber miles with more than 5,300 access points, as well as hundreds of laterals off [its] backbone and delivered more than 3,000 circuits to our customers,” according to the company.
As per a recent statement, “These new fiber-optic cables will link these cities with FiberLight’s existing regional networks, including previously announced build out in western Texas. That rollout is more than half completed,” FiberLight asserted.
When both projects reach completion, FiberLight will own just over 9,000 route miles in the state.
As more U.S. states are looking to upgrade and expand many of its antiquated IT networks, more companies like FiberLight are forming to answer the demand. The demand for super-fast fiber optic networks is increasing, especially from state and local governments who are answering to their constituents’ pleas for a better, faster, more efficient network speed.
These upgrades also make it easier for city officials and other private employees who rely on these systems during their daily work routine and personal lives. Enhancing these networks essentially enhances the quality of life for all citizens integrated around it, and companies like FiberLight are beginning to pop up to establish these networks.
The company has already started construction, explaining its first project will include the completion of a “new ‘super metro’ and regional fiber infrastructure through […] the cities of Austin, San Antonio, Schertz, Corpus Christi, Waco, and Laredo among a total list of 64 cities.”
