With the addition of the "Global Fiber Optic Patch Cords Market 2011-2015" report to its offering, Research and Markets has added one more to its roster. The current report focuses on the growth of the global optic fiber cable market and the factors that trigger it.

Slated to grow at a CAGR of 14.45 over the period 2011-2015, the future landscape presents an energized scenario, where the growth of the Internet and increase in the number of gadgets and devices that access the Internet play important roles.

So, what drives the market? The factors are cyclic. With the growth of the Internet, there has been an increase in demand for IPTV (News - Alert), HD videos, video conferencing and other applications that require an Internet connection. Hence, the number of broadband connections increase as does the demand for optic fiber cable.

Let’s go underground. The report indicates that the situation is not very different. With the increase in the number of gadget and devices using broadband connections to access the Internet, which is constantly evolving, there appears to be a tremendous demand for fiber optic underground cables and cords as they are required to manage these connections.

It doesn’t stop there. Service providers use transmitting and receiving equipment and have specific bandwidth requirements. Hence, they need customized optical fiber patch cords to ensure compatibility. Manufactures will thus be kept busy developing suitable patch cords.

Analysts reported that ultra-high-capacity optical networks could emerge because of the growth of the global fiber optic patch cords market. Fiber optic patch cord is a fiber optic cable that can be directly connected to other equipment for connecting and managing convenience.

''With the deployment of 10G and 40G optical transmission networks in recent years, there is a trend toward the deployment of high-capacity optical network by network operators,” noted an analyst from TechNavio's networking team.

The analyst also observed that many big vendors were conduction trials for capacities as large as 400G and 10 petabits per second transmission, very much more than the current requirements. Considering the explosion of data traffic, these need to be regarded as future investments. However, increased competition, limited infrastructure and overcapacity may pose challenges for fiber cable makers.

The report also makes a mention of the vendors that are dominating the fiber optic cable space and other competing vendors.
