OVH Offers 500 Gb/s Super-Channels Using Infinera DTN-X Platform
By Carolyn J Dawson
Infinera’s (News - Alert) DTN-X platform will be implemented by OVH for its Pan-European Network, thereby offering 500 Gigabit per second or Gb/s super-channels. As compared to the current network capacity, OVH will be able to offer 10 times more network capacity using the DTN-X platform. This platform will now be able to connect data centers across 10 key cities in seven European countries.
OVH will implement multi-terabit optical transmission capacity across its optical network using the Infinera DTN-X platform, thereby sustaining the rising and dynamic capacity requirements of cloud services. For the first time in the industry, 500 Gb/s long-haul optical super-channels will be made available commercially by the DTN-X. OVH will implement this platform for offering services to its consumers and enterprise customers with its data centers, spanning 10,000 kilometers of optical fiber.
In a statement, Octave Klaba, CEO, OVH said, “We’ve chosen an innovative technology leader, offering the best solution on the market to meet our capacity; flexibility and service lead time requirements. We continue to be impressed by Infinera’s PIC technology and the DTN-X platform–from significantly simplifying our operations and reducing the time to deploy bandwidth to fundamentally lowering our total cost of ownership.”
Huge quantities of bandwidth at a rapid pace are required by OVH customers. OVH chose the DTN-X mainly due to its capability of offering incorporated OTN switching and availability of 500 Gb/s long-haul super-channels based on Infinera’s 500 Gb/s PIC and second-generation FlexCoherent Processor (News - Alert).
Resourceful usage of long-haul capacity is possible with the incorporated OTN switching. The OTN switching allows OVH to implement huge quantities of optical bandwidth for customer services in a swift manner. OVH will implement DTN-X on routes like the 1,200 kilometers Roubaix-Paris-Strasbourg-Frankfurt route, resulting in decreased operational expenses and increased network capacity.
Chris Champion, VP, EMEA Sales, Infinera said, “After a rigorous and competitive bid process, OVH’s selection of the DTN-X demonstrates that Infinera’s solution for multi-terabit optical networks proves valuable to markets above and beyond traditional network operators. We are pleased that Infinera continues to grow within OVH’s optical footprint as they aggressively deploy cutting edge cloud and web hosting services.”
