OFS Intros HomeRun Indoor MDU Cabling Solution to EMEA Market
By Shamila Janakiraman
The company is a provider of optical fiber, optical fiber cable, connectivity, FTTX and specialty photonics solutions. Its products find applications in the telecommunications, medicine, industrial automation, sensing, government, aerospace and defense industries.
Jason Pedder, Director of Product Marketing, EMEA Cable and Connectivity for OFS, said, “MDU owners desire faster installation to avoid disturbing tenants. Service providers seek to lower both installation labor and optical loss in FTTH networks. The HomeRun Solution meets these needs through faster installation with lower loss by eliminating intermediate connections between riser and floor cabling.”
In the case of traditional indoor cabling solutions, cumbersome field bundling is the norm. And the pulling of large diameter multiple drop cable assemblies up a riser and down a hallway is difficult just the same.
Then follows the hurdle of installing two segments of connector cable in the riser and hallway, along with a distribution panel.
To make this easier, OFS has launched the HomeRun Indoor MDU Cabling solution. As a part of the FOX Solution component set, the HomeRun MDU Cabling System helps reduce installation steps and connections. This in turn makes fiber deployment in multi-dwelling units or MDU buildings affordable, faster and easier with limited loss.
According to officials, the OFS HomeRun Solution cable includes many individual drops bundled in one sheath. This allows many compact drop cables to be pulled up a riser and down a hallway in a single step.
The solution can be used in moldings or above suspended ceilings as well. After pulling the sheath through, the individual drop is removed from the sheath and terminated with a mechanical or fusion splice on connector, and connected to the OFS SlimBox module.
The EZ-Bend Fiber solution is used in the HomeRun solution. Being flexible, the EZ-Bend fiber assemblies can pass through sharp bends and routed through confined spaces with less visual impact in MDUs and residences.
It features ultra-bend-insensitiveness, offering less than 0.1 dB of added loss at 1550 nm for 1 turn at a 5-mm bend radius.
OFS has also introduced the FOX Solution SlimBox Drop System to the European, Middle East and African (EMEA) markets. The SlimBox Drop System provides a versatile solution from a single platform for making the FTTH connection to SFU (Single Family Unit) or MDU (Multifamily Dwelling Unit) subscribers.
