ADTRAN Expands Its Optical Networking Edge Solution
ADTRAN (News - Alert), a provider of networking solutions, says that the newly unveiled Total Access 5004 ONE platform is an access-optimized, packet-optical transport offering, designed for helping service providers scale their services easily and cost-effectively in order to better serve their backhaul, business and residential customers.
With a pure Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 series platforms can support both legacy and emerging service interfaces over both copper and fiber, easily scaling to support even the most bandwidth intensive applications. Using the same modules and software as the 5000 series, the new 5004 model is available to users in a temperature-hardened, modular, compact two rack unit (RU) form factor.
Mano Nachum, packet optical networking product line manager at ADTRAN’s Carrier Networks Division, said, “From the start, ADTRAN’s ONE solution has been designed to reduce the complexity of packet optical networking to help service providers increase flexibility and simplify operations so that they can accelerate next-generation service delivery for their customers. Now with the availability of the Total Access 5004, we extend all the scalable reliability benefits of the ONE solution to additional network edge and access deployment models.”
ADTRAN said that the new Total Access 5004 is packed with a range of management options. For communicating alarms with legacy Operation Support Systems (OSS), it uses Transaction Language 1 (TL1) with Extensible Markup Language (XML) available as an alternative option. SNMP networks are connected over an Ethernet 10/100Base-T or standard RS-232 connector. The Advanced Operational Environment (AOE) delivers a Web GUI management interface and support for XML and TL1 north-bound OSS interfaces.
AOE architecture combines high packet switching capacity with the broad service support of the ADTRAN Total Access 5000 family, making it well suited to meet the requirements of next-generation services access at the network edge. Some of the notable features built into the Total Access 5004 ONE platform are: support for FTTx, packet optical and carrier Ethernet application; non-blocking service architecture; support for TDM, ATM and Ethernet network interfaces; copper and fiber transport and access; fully redundant, carrier class design; digital and metallic test access; multiple network management capabilities including full FCAPS support; full turn-key cabinet solutions; and more.
