Sterlite Networks to Deploy Optical Fiber to 150,000 Homes in India by 2014
By Shamila Janakiraman
Sterlite Networks plans to deploy fiber optic connectivity to 150,000 homes by March 2014 in India as a part of proof of concept. A fully owned subsidiary of Sterlite Technologies, the company has already laid optic fiber in the cities of Ghaziabad and Noida near the capital of India, New Delhi and other major cities like Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Vijay Jain, COO and director of Sterlite Networks said, “Sterlite Networks is deploying next gen FTTH (Fiber-to-the-home) infrastructure, where it can converge all the services, connect towers and DAS systems. We have also done some roll outs that was a captive kind of infrastructure for enterprise users only. The company is seeing supply driven demand and plans to take these roll outs to the next level.”
Telecom operators in India who are leveraging Sterlite’s fiber infrastructure have successfully doubled their broadband ARPUs. Sterlite optic fibers serve 20,000 different customers or subscribers who have subscribed to major telecom service providers like Bharti Airtel (News - Alert), Tata, BSNL and Spectranet.
Sterlite takes pride in deploying an optimized fiber optic infrastructure which can accommodate any IP service. VAS services including VoD, surveillance, online gaming (cloud-based), E-governance and E-education are some of the applications that can be enabled by the infrastructure which allows operators to reap financial benefits as well.
The company has designed the deployment method of the optic fibers to suit conditions in India to achieve its targets optimally. Sterlite offers a complete range of end-to-end optical fibers for a variety of applications ranging from long haul, regional, metro, access and FTTx networks.
Supported by a fully integrated manufacturing facility and a dedicated research and development center, Sterlite’s range of optical fibers deliver enhanced performance in data transmission and performance reliability.
Fiber connectivity solutions provided by Sterlite deliver end-to-end range of connectivity products suitable for telecom networks. The solution suite includes central office solutions, outside plant solutions, FTTH connectivity solutions and other accessories required for the distribution and last mile network. The comprehensive solution enables fast installation, is highly scalable and requires low skills to install.
In July 2013, Sterlite launched BOW LITE Super, BOW LITE Enhanced and BOW LITE Plus optic fibers which are bend insensitive and can enhance the quality of transmission. All three products have further strengthened the BOW LITE family of fibers. These bend-insensitive products meet the industry specifications for attenuation and macro-bend loss. They are ideal for the growing fiber to the home (FTTH) applications.
