Let's Make a Movie. Faster!
By Rory J. Thompson
It’s well known that the movie business has warmly embraced all the new technologies made available to it, as evidenced by all the films using CGI (News - Alert) and other special effects. So, it makes sense that an industry so reliant on technology would settle for nothing less than the fastest broadband speed it could get to keep up with today’s breakneck pace of work and play.
To that end Wilcon, the premier West Coast provider of best-in-class fiber optic network and data center infrastructure, announced that it has just completed a major new fiber optic network build to Los Angeles Center Studios, one of LA’s foremost independent movie studios. According to a company statement, the ultra-broadband network infrastructure will deliver high-capacity data services and scalable bandwidth for the studios’ growing base of media and entertainment tenants.
“We can deliver a comprehensive dark fiber solution and a full suite of lit services, up to 10 gig circuits, to provide transport capabilities from Los Angeles Center Studios to all major locations throughout Southern California,” said Jon DeLuca, CEO of Wilcon.
That means the studio can connect with remote locations and other services it needs faster and more completely, allowing quicker turnaround on productions and ultimately lower costs due to time saved.
As one of the largest fiber optic networks in Southern California, Wilcon boasts that it offers its clients both a wide reach and diverse routes that connect major data centers, enterprise locations and wireless communications sites, as well as the most dense fiber and interconnection infrastructure in downtown Los Angeles.
“Wilcon was a very natural fit for us,” noted Sam Nicassio, president of Los Angeles Center Studios. “They offer superior scalability, reliability and customized support, and their fiber network capabilities will enable us to further grow our suite of services to the media and entertainment industry.”
And they’re going to need everything Wilcon can provide. On its website, Los Angeles Center Studios notes that it serves the creative industry with “Class A and production offices, six 18,000 square foot audience rated state-of-the-art sound stages, [and] full-service amenities.” The company adds that it is widely considered Los Angeles’ premier independent movie studio.
