EXFO Enhances Test Suite of 40G-100G Lab Testing Capabilities for NEMs
By Calvin Azuri
EXFO (News - Alert) has announced the extension of its test suite to include 40G/100G optical transport network (OTN) multiplexing test capabilities on its FTB/IQS-85100G Packet Blazer 40G/100G multiservice test modules. The enhanced test suite capabilities include ODUflex at both OTU3 (43.018 Gbit/s) and OTU4 (111.81 Gbit/s) optical rates as well as OTU4 multistage multiplexing as per the ITU-T G.709 standard for breakthrough-level qualification of 40G/100G Muxponders. The new capabilities are software options for existing FTB/IQS-85100G Packet Blazer modules, which do not require any further investments on hardware while also increasing return in investment for customers.
“Over the past few years, EXFO has been a leading provider of high-speed multiservice testing solutions, and the extension of our 40G/100G OTN test capabilities continues on that trend,” said Claudio Mazzuca, vice president of EXFO's Transport and Service Assurance Division. “Our NEM and NSP customers are under pressure to speed up their development and time-to-market to generate more revenues, and we're more determined than ever to meet our customers' needs.”
Given the industry trends today, Service Providers are investing significantly to enhance the bandwidth speed of core and metro networks to meet the 100GB capacity. However, the service provider cannot ignore the 10G services, which continue to be the highest revenue generating option for service providers. Further, network element manufacturers (NEMs) are also focusing on increasing the 40G/100G cross-connect offering to facilitate switching and termination of 10G and lesser speed services to optimize the bandwidth usage without making any compromises on the quality of the service.
The new ODUflex capability offers an extensive test suite for completely simulating and analyzing different client payload sizes. The capability is optimized when mapped with OTN bandwidth while allowing for high flexibility in optimizing 40G/100G network bandwidth usage. The EXFO's FTB/IQS-85100G Packet Blazer modules are also designed to support OTU4 multistage multiplexing schemes with complete access to control and monitor OTN overhead bytes as well as tandem-connection-monitoring (TCM) traces and forward error correction (FEC) algorithms.EXFO is engaged in providing advanced test and service assurance capabilities and solutions for wireless and wireline network operators. The company’s solutions are widely used in telecom industry from development and installation through management and maintenance of fixed IP, converged IP and mobile networks.
