In-Stat: Digital Media Services to Rise 250 Percent through 2013
Market research firm In-Stat reports that it’s expecting a 250 percent rise from 2008 to 2013 in use of digital media devices, like computers, gaming devices, consumer electronics, portable and mobile wireless devices.
With this widespread proliferation, there will also be increasing popularity of devices that are network-enabled, taking advantage of different wired and wireless technologies like coax, phone wiring, powerline, Ethernet, and WiFi (News - Alert). Current entertainment service provider networks that connect set top boxes and residential gateways are also feeling the need to build networks over existing infrastructure.
The research further reveals that over the year’s two distinctive home networks have been emerging-a service provider-centric network and PC-centric network. End users will continue to come up against technical and business model obstacles as they try to transition between the two types of networks for relaying contents and services. The average PC throughput will also go up by 70 percent by 2013. A growing number of survey respondents also were fascinated with watching Internet Videos on TV. The survey also indicates that most of the service provider installations using MoCA and HomePNA (News - Alert) have been in North America, volume-wise.
The research, titled “Global and North American Service Provider in Home Networks over Coax & Phone Wiring,” includes a summary of the combined digital home vision and key trends in the industry. It seeks to understand the factors which are promoting the networking over Coax and Phone Wiring and which contribute to the widespread deployment of networking over Coax and Phone wiring in North America versus other techniques.
The report analyses the exponential growth expected in North American household service provider in-home entertainment networks and worldwide chipset shipments for 2007–2013. Further, it also sheds light on the MoCA and HPNA shipments over the past couple of years, the sector’s key vendors operating environments, cross-vendor comparisons and the fast emerging ITU-T G.hn. The appended North American 2009 consumer survey looks at familiarity among users, interest, price sensitivity and application popularity. The research is priced at $2,495 and can be ordered on online.
