Motorola Home & Networks Mobility’s (H&NM) gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and IPTV (News - Alert) set top solutions have been chosen by Magnalink to provide ultra-broadband services to municipalities within the city of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. These will allow Magnalink to provide rich personalized media experiences to its customers.

With the help of Motorola (News - Alert) GPON services, operators can build upon the power of a fiber infrastructure to bring advanced IPTV and packet-based video services directly to the home. With this, they can also deliver multiple revenue generating services over a single fiber passive optical network (PON).

According to the agreement, Motorola has partnered with KonekTel to provide important products from its FTTH and IPTV portfolios. Magnalink can now choose from various Motorola GPON and VIP series set tops currently deployed by services providers throughout the world, as the company looks to diversify its utility business to offer broadband and rich media services.

“Driven by high-quality HD content and social media networking, consumers are demanding higher speed broadband connections and more personalized video services,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, access networks solutions, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility. “Our GPON solutions enable service providers such as Magnalink to enter new markets and offer differentiated services, and we’re excited to announce progress in our roll out of GPON FTTH solutions.”

Magnalink has selected products such as AXS1800 optical line terminal (OLT) which help the company to deliver the highest quality video, voice and data into small and large markets. Magnalink has also selected Motorola’s ONT1120 desktop optical network terminal (ONT), which provided advanced services over an all-optical network. Another product selected by the company is VIP1900 series IPTV set tops supporting HDTV and DVR.

Recently, Northern Michigan University (NMU) selected Motorola’s wireless broadband infrastructure for a new mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) network in the school. NMU is currently deploying a fully functional Motorola WiMAX network in its campus that would enable nearly 3,000 of the school's more than 9,000 students to experience WiMAX on the go including the use of video chat sessions.
