Lexent Metro Connect Offers Low-Latency Dark Fiber Network Solutions
By Rajani Baburajan TMCnet Contributor Lexent Metro Connect, a provider of dark fiber networks in the New York metropolitan area, announced its custom built carrier-neutral network solutions that reduce latency and enhance reliability.
Company officials said that Lexent’s solutions help enterprises and carriers to construct the shortest distance between two network points, reducing latency.
Lexent had recently expanded its low latency, dark fiber network into so-called “key” facilities operated by data center providers in New Jersey. They interconnect all of the major New York City carrier hotels and over 100 enterprise buildings to the top New Jersey datacenters.
As part of this expansion, Lexent Metro Connect entered into a strategic partnership with FiberMedia, which owns and operates a network of datacenters and offers scalable managed hosting services to businesses and institutions, TMCnet reported.
With this partnership, the two companies enable bandwidth intensive organizations to build a state-of-the-art, custom built, dark fiber optic network with Lexent Metro Connect and then collocate their core network infrastructure equipment with FiberMedia. They can also benefit from FiberMedia’s network planning, technical support and managed services.
“Lexent is the only truly neutral, open access dark fiber provider in the New York Metro region that can provide a quick to market custom network solution that can shave microseconds across a network’s path,” said Ray La Chance, president and CEO of Lexent Metro Connect, in a statement.
The new network service enables customers to develop customized optical network solutions over a secure, high-capacity fiber infrastructure that has been route optimized to minimize latency between core regional datacenter facilities, La Chance added.
With the help of its existing vast network footprint that extends to thousands of fiber miles, Lexent is able to analyze and plan custom paths to shorten network distance. This facility enables companies to transform their communications infrastructure quickly, efficiently and cost effectively.
Company officials said that shaving a few milliseconds off a dark fiber route can mean the difference between thousands of dollars on each transaction. This will be especially beneficial to global banks, financial exchanges and other enterprise clients located within miles of the Lexent network.
Lexent Metro is offering the service in association with its sister company, Hugh O’Kane Electric. This partnership enables the company to offer a flexible and carrier neutral dark fiber networks, overcoming third party construction issues that often plague other providers in and around New York City and New Jersey.
“We have seen a significant increase in financial firms joining our client roster within the past 12 months,” added La Chance. “By utilizing our dark fiber network footprint coupled with our custom solutions, financial companies are able to ensure optimal control over their network security, physical redundancy, bandwidth and latency.”
