SiTime Intros Oscillator for 10 Gigabit Ethernet Applications

SiTime Corporation, a California-based provider of MEMS-based silicon timing solutions, has unveiled a new high performance, low jitter programmable differential oscillator, the “SiT9102AC,” which is designed for 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications.
Available in 125 MHz, 156.25 MHz, and 161.1328 MHz output frequencies, the SiT9102AC oscillator can be used in high performance networking equipment such as multi-port Ethernet switches, Fiber to the Home equipment such as optical line terminals and optical network units, broadband customer premise equipment as well as high-end IP Set Top Boxes, in order to provide clocks for Ethernet functions.
Device with output frequency of 125 MHz can be used for Gigabit Ethernet applications, while 156.25 MHz and 161.1328 MHz can be used for 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications. Other customized frequencies are also available, but on request, says company.
SiTime’s SiT9102AC are available in industry-standard surface-mount packages, enabling easy and cost-effective replacement of quartz-based solutions. According to the company, the SiT9102AC oscillators are 10 times more robust and reliable than quartz-based solutions. The device is available in package size of 7.0 x 5.0 x 0.9 mm or 5.0 x 3.2 x 0.75 mm.
“SiTime's programmable, differential output oscillators enable high performance networking equipment manufacturers to differentiate their products and accelerate their time to market,” said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing at SiTime. “The SiT9102AC has many customizable features and meets the stringent timing requirements of Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet protocols.”
In addition, SiTime said that the SiT9102AC’s clock output is configured to comply with Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic, which is consistent with the Ethernet standards. The oscillators offer total frequency stability of +/- 25 PPM (News - Alert) over the extended commercial temperature range, improving the system timing margin.
Currently, the SiT9102AC devices are available at a price of $7 for the 156.25 MHz device in 1K quantities.
