Optelians LightGAIN Optical Transport System Certified by Brocade
Optelian (News - Alert), a designer and manufacturer of optical network systems, has reportedly announced that its LightGAIN Optical Transport System has been verified by Brocade Communications Systems (News - Alert) Inc. as being compatible with Brocade-based Storage Area Networking infrastructure. The verification is based on the requirements of the Brocade (News - Alert) Data Center Ready Program. This program is an initiative which fosters interoperability in multi-vendor, Brocade-based data center environments, Brocade officials said. “The successful completion of Brocade’s compatibility testing is a strong link in the chain of acceptance testing completed for our customers and is further evidence of the compatibility of Optelian’s carrier-grade systems with the diverse elements of the network,” Dave Mills (News - Alert), vice president of Sales and Service at Optelian, said. “Our customer base and our technology alliances are a testament to the excellent design and proven reliability of Optelian’s LightGAIN systems,” he added. The LightGAIN DWDM Optical Network System is small in size and consumes very less power. It features a high mean time between failures and a short delivery time. The system configuration tested for verification was a 40-channel DWDM system with protection path switching, said Brocade sources. “We are pleased that Optelian has successfully completed the Data Center Ready testing with Brocade switches and directors in multi-vendor SAN environments,” Patric Chang (News - Alert), director of Strategic Alliances at Brocade, said. He further explained that storage area networks are being deployed worldwide at a rapid rate as a scalable, high-performance networking foundation for storage environments. The Brocade Data Center Ready program enables the delivery of optimized end-to-end interoperability to customers. Officials explained that the Brocade Data Center Ready program is a comprehensive testing and configuration initiative designed to ensure end-to-end SAN interoperability. Testing is conducted in SAN configurations that include a heterogeneous mix of servers, storage systems, Brocade switches, SAN management and enterprise applications, and other SAN technologies. Brocade has created an interoperability lab with a heterogeneous SAN fabric, in which the company tests and validates partner equipment in specific configurations. Brocade Data Center Ready qualification certification is given to vendors after completing tests to confirm that vendors’ products comply with interoperability guidelines. Optelian’s optical solutions are leveraged by telecom, multi-service operators or MSOs, utility and enterprise customers to expand their fiber capacity in order to increase revenue and efficiency.
