Leviton to Launch 24-Fiber 100 Gigabit Ethernet System at Conference
Leviton will launch what it describes as the industry's first 24-fiber preterminated MTP cabling system for 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE). The system has been specifically designed to meet IEEE 802.3ba requirements and new 100GBase-SR10 and 40GBase-SR4 equipment. The system will be officially launched at the 2011 BICSI Winter Conference, being held Jan. 16 to 20, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Allie Fiber Agrees to Complete First Phase of Dark Fiber Network
Allied Fiber has entered into financing arrangements with financial partners, including affiliates of Falcon Investment Advisors, LLC and ABRY Partners, LLC, to complete funding for phase one of its new, network-neutral, high-count dark fiber, colocation and a wireless tower integrated system. The first phase linking New York City, Chicago and Ashburn, Va., is already under construction and is expected to be complete by May 2011.

Clearfield, CFU Team to Deploy Fiber Solution in Cedar Falls
Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) will deploy a major Fiber to the Premises (FTTp) solution that will provide businesses and residents in the Cedar Falls, Iowa area greater access to high-speed Internet and high-definition television. Clearfield said that will assist in the passive optical network (PON) project through its fiber management product line. The product line includes the FieldSmart Fiber Scalability Center 288 PON Cabinets in the field, FieldSmart Fiber Crossover Distribution System (FxDS) 288 Patch and Splice Ribbon Panels used in the central office, and outside plant-rated fiber pigtails at the premises.

Alcatel-UNIFI Agreement Gives Albania its First Undersea Fiber-Optic Cable
Alcatel-Lucent has undertaken to provide turnkey implementation of Albania's first private undersea fiber-optic cable system. It has entered into an agreement with UNIFI Communications, a leading U.S.-based international carrier, and signed a Balkans-Italy Network Phase 1 supply contract. As a result of the agreement, Tirana, Albania will shortly be connected to Bari, Italy. The network is expected to begin providing service by the end of 2011.

Infinera Demonstrates 100 Gbps Coherent Transmission Over 800 Miles of Optical Fiber Network
In this trial, Infinera employed its new 500 Gbps photonic integrated circuits (PICs), each integrating five 100G channels. The 500G PICs were used for transmitting and receiving a 100G signal on a 1348 km production route between Denver and Dallas on the XO Communications optical fiber network. In fact, Infinera's 100G-ready Infinera line system (ILS) with switched WDM capability and scalable fiber capacity of up to 8 Terabits per second was deployed on this route.
