Windmill Networks, a provider of network management integration technology, has introduced Windmill Networks Integration Manager (WIM).

WIM collects a set of network management applications into a network management system and shares the resources across network applications.

Once implemented in a network, WIM creates a streamlined network management system. Company officials said that this ensures that information supplied to operations is better, outages shorter, and also that its takes less effort for application changes.

This latest offering is expected to enable network operations staff to gain control of network information and save staff hundreds of man hours per year.

The addition of an enhanced network element makes updates to the network as much as 40 percent faster than the process used by either CiscoWorks or SolarWinds (News - Alert), claimed officials. WIM “simplifies” the sequence of installing new elements to the network, they said.

The WIM Appliance works by hosting the Web/AJAX-based user interface and maintaining a common database of all of the network information. In addition, it also maintains the relationships between applications and network information.

WIM also initiates all communications with the software agents running on the other systems.

In addition to a physical appliance, a VMware software appliance is offered, and all data resides on the customer's network. Also, to ensure usability across all standards-compliant browsers, WIM utilized industry standard web-based tools such as Ruby on Rails, AJAX, and Javascript.

“As more man hours and budget are required to oversee networks that are being run by multiple network management applications, we have produced a new tool that can reduce these business costs by turning the applications into a cohesive system,” said Fred Gray, CEO at Windmill Networks.

Gray said that this latest introduction provides a way to share resources across the multiple network applications without lengthy and custom integration efforts.
