Ikanos Partners With ASSIA
Ikanos (News - Alert) Communications, Inc., a provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, has signed a partnership agreement with Adaptive Spectrum (News - Alert) and Signal Alignment, also known as “ASSIA”.
As per the terms of this agreement, Ikanos has been issued a patent license for ASSIA's Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) and other technologies for the development of vectored DSL products or DSM Level 3 - which is capable of delivering speeds of 100 Mbps and greater over existing copper loops.
DSM 3 is one of the three levels of DSM defined in the ATIS (News - Alert) DSM Technical Report for managing noise, power and crosstalk in DSL systems of all types including; ADSL1, ADSL2/2+ and VDSL in both single service provider and unbundled, multiple service provider environments.
Both companies have also agreed to co-market each others' products to the network equipment and service provider industries.
"ASSIA is recognized throughout the telecommunications industry as one of the most influential and innovative technology providers, especially when it comes to maximizing DSL network performance," said Michael Gulett, president and chief executive officer at Ikanos.
"As a result of our relationship with ASSIA, Ikanos expects to accelerate the time to market for a new generation of products that capitalize on DSM technology's advantages, setting higher standards for performance, stability and reliability," Gulett said.
DSM enables service providers to maximize the rate and reach of their DSL services, while minimizing operating costs, through the automatic optimization of DSL networks and advanced, root-cause diagnostics analyses. Also, DSM technology enables service providers to further extend the useful life of the copper infrastructure.
John Cioffi, chairman and chief executive officer at ASSIA said, “Ikanos' endorsing implementation of ASSIA's DSM 3 vectoring technology can more rapidly advance the deployment of higher speed digital subscriber lines, enabling service providers worldwide to improve service and reduce operating costs. As vectored DSL standards emerge, chip vendors, such as Ikanos, are making it possible for service providers to realize the full potential of the technology by ensuring cross platform support, full management data access and standardized management interfaces.” Jai C.S. is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
