Occam Networks, Inc. has launched the ON 2364 optical network terminal (ONT). Occam will be presenting the ON 2364 at TelcoTV. Occam Networks provides broadband access solutions that empower service providers to offer profitable new voice, data and video services over copper and fiber.

According to a press release, the new ON 2364 delivers business Ethernet, T1s and legacy voice services over an optical gigabit Ethernet uplink. It is interoperable with Occam’s family of FTTP OLTs and supports the latest pseudowire emulation edge to edge technology. The ON 2364 is ideal for backhaul of existing business services like PBX (News - Alert), private line and fractional T1 circuits. It also allows operators to migrate mission critical traffic to optical networks without forcing upgrades to existing enterprise or SMB equipment. The ON 2364 also provides 100 Megabit or Gigabit Ethernet LAN interfaces to accommodate IT environments.

The ON 2364 supports the Network Synchronization Protocol (NSP) and also maintains network synchronization for all TDM and voice traffic. NSP is a packet synchronization protocol and provides G.824 jitter compliance.

In the release, Juan Vela (News - Alert), director of marketing and strategy for Occam Networks, said as business users and mobile subscribers increase their dependence on high speed Internet and data applications, service providers need to offer solutions that exceed existing bandwidth and interface requirements while planning for future needs that are best addressed by optical access. The new ON 2364 has the performance to meet these needs with the flexibility to simplify network operations.

The new ON 2364 combines Gigabit optical transport with eight T1s and Gigabit Ethernet base station LAN interface. It simplifies the transition from legacy TDM backhaul to Ethernet backhaul at mobile and wireless sites. In addition, it is possible for operators to deploy the ON 2364 in 12 or 24 to 48 volt power environments thereby assuring operational simplicity in outdoor SMB, strip mall and base station applications. This flexibility eliminates the need for an extensive range of configuration options.

Occam ONTs deliver a variety of applications to single family residences, multiple tenant buildings and commercial buildings with equal simplicity, flexibility and cost efficiency. Also, ONTs from Occam enable providers to deliver high-speed data, VoIP, Lifeline POTS, IP Video, RF Video and HD TV as well as the latest service demanded by subscribers.
