Rural communities have always had a sharp disadvantage compared to cities regarding the latest technology. The cost of deploying the infrastructure to supply technology as well as the limited number of customers has discouraged private companies from providing the same service they offer to large cities and their surrounding communities. As broadband technology becomes an integral part of our society, the current administration has been pushing initiatives to deliver broadband capacity in rural areas.

While Google Fiber is being courted heavily in cities around the country, such as Portland, Oregon, the company seems as if the decision process to actually roll out the high speed Internet connection isn't as cut and dried as the company has claimed in the past. Google has long claimed it will not offer the service until a specific area has enough people that have expressed interest in the technology.

Resilience in the Femtocell Market Augurs Well for 2013: ABI Research

A lackluster performance and negative growth that seemed to dog the femtocell market in the first half of 2012 was thankfully not a precursor of what was to come in the second half, as a struggling market showed some signs of revival, according to ABI's latest research. ABI research findings indicated that femtocell shipments in the second half more than doubled from the first, and 2012 ended on a slightly more optimistic note with shipments just crossing the two-million mark.
