Waveform Technology Upgrades Data Center with Added Capacity and Energy EfficiencyWaveform Technology, an Internet service provider and data center operator, announced that it has conducted major data center upgrades including increase in capacity and energy efficiency at its Troy Michigan Data Center. The significant improvements are expected to offer increased capacity to address growing demand for data center space, improve service reliability, and maximize energy efficiency. "We're experiencing a huge growth in the number of new colocation tenants we take on each year," said Waveform spokesperson Noel Montales, in a statement. “The addition of more colocation customers necessitates an increase in critical power capacity.” “To meet this demand Waveform has added over a half megawatt of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) capacity and replaced the data center's backup power generator with a new custom-built Kohler (News - Alert) full megawatt generator,” Montales added. At present, Waveform Technology operates four UPS units, which function independently from each other and allow Waveform to address increasing requests for fully redundant power feeds. This more than doubles the existing UPS capacity in the Michigan Data Center, company officials said. The company employs all Liebert UPS units because it wants to offer reliability and efficiency to its customers. Liebert uninterruptible power supplies operate at 94 percent energy efficiency. The new generator addresses the EPA's tier 3 standard for emissions and is more environmentally friendly than the previous tier 1 generator. Waveform now uses only ultralow sulfur fuel, greatly decreasing the amount of sulfur dioxide released during runtime. Recently, Waveform Technology announced the company connects more Michigan data centers than any other competitive carrier. Waveform Technology also completed a major expansion of its Metro Detroit fiber-optic network. This IP based network provides connectivity to private, commercial, educational and municipal data centers located throughout Southeast Michigan. The total capacity of Waveform Technology's 400 route mile network is over 1,600 Gigabits per second. Rajani Baburajan is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
