Alcan Cable Expands Distribution Network in Mexico City
Alcan Cable, a business of Rio Tinto Alcan and manufacturer of aluminum cable and rod and strip products, recently celebrated the opening of its new distribution center in Mexico City. The facility, which features additional inventory capacity, redesigned cutting and packaging equipment, will serve as the main sales and distribution center for Alcan Cable de México, the company said in a statement. The new facility will also be used as a training center to host customer educational programs about STABILOY cables. As a part of the inauguration celebration, Alcan hosted an open house last week. Guests were invited to tour the distribution center and meet Alcan Cable de México personnel and members of Alcan Cable's U.S. management team. “Alcan Cable de México's new larger distribution center in Mexico City will allow us to more quickly respond to our customers' increasing cable requirements with better on-time delivery and enhanced customer service and technical support,” said Pete Mir, general manager of Alcan Cable de México. Mexico is important in the company’s North American growth strategy for its STABILOY cable products, the brand of aluminum alloy cables that have become the standard for commercial, institutional and industrial building applications in Mexico. Alcan Cable de México utilizes a network of electrical distributors to sell its products throughout the country. The opening of the new distribution warehouse in Mexico City signifies Alcan Cable's continued commitment to the Mexican and Latin American markets. A couple of month ago, Rio Tinto and CGI Group (News For more than 20 years, CGI has been providing IT infrastructure services to Rio Tinto Alcan, including end-user device support, service desk, server management, data center management, and certain network management and security services. The contract for these services has reportedly been renewed until 2015 and will now be extended to other Rio Tinto divisions located in the United States and Canada.
