Infinera (News - Alert), along with Interoute, recently announced the introduction of Interoute's 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services, which have been based on Infinera’s DTN platform. Infinera is a specialist in Digital Optical Networks, and currently owns the largest cloud services platform across Europe.

In a statement, Matthew Finnie, CTO at Interoute said that, "Interoute and Infinera have worked together to integrate industry leading technology for a number of years. The ability to adapt our existing Infinera DTN network to 100 GbE next-generation services demonstrates the inherent value of the Infinera architecture. It protects our investment for the future services that we need to provide our customers to stay competitive."

Interoute, which first used Infinera’s DTN platform four years ago to support its pan-European network, has become the first provider offering the most broadly available 100 GbE services across Europe. With this development, Interoute has once again demonstrated its dedication and support for pushing innovation within the information and communication technology marketplace.

Interoute's network, currently one of the most extensive across Europe, provides customers with a wide range of services including voice, video, computing, and high-capacity international data bandwidth – in addition to network infrastructure.

To address the growing need for bandwidth by customers, Interoute has focused on integrating support for its 100 GbE services delivered on Infinera’s DTN platform, along with its high availability, highly meshed and fully diverse network. While a number of carriers and enterprises currently use multiple 10 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) services, the drawback here is that these can quickly become complex and expensive.

However, with 100 GbE services, both complexities and expenses can be effectively minimized without compromising on higher bandwidth efficiency.

Infinera's DTN platform, designed to feature photonic integrated circuits (PIC), provides Interoute with greater operational simplicity and scalability. Interoute decided to use a PIC-based solution based on benefits which include a substantial reduction in size, power, costs, and greater level of reliability.

All of these factors work together to ensure a reduction in capital and operational expenses, while providing Interoute with a more flexible robust optical network.
