TMCnet Dark Fiber Week in Review

It was a busy week in the Dark Fiber sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.
Sea Fiber Networks (SFN) has announced that it extended its C-Fiber portfolio from greater Dublin, Ireland, to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. SFN provides connections from Dublin to Amsterdam that are managed with a single service level agreement, by partnering with service providers. Also, Amsterdam has the busiest Internet Exchange in Europe, AMS-IX.
In addition, the first phase of a new carrier-neutral core interconnection facility at 325 Hudson Street in New York City was announced recently by Jamestown Properties, Amerimar Enterprises, Inc. and Hunter Newby (News - Alert). The 10-story, 240,000-square-foot telecom building will have direct access to transatlantic cables, as well as all providers of metro and regional fiber. Cage and cabinet spaces and a large Meet Me Area will be built in the first phase of development. Features such as heavy floor loading capacity and 12-foot ceilings, in addition to HVAC, power, and back-up power supply have all been designed into the building.
TMCnet also reported that Xencode has unveiled a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) network analytics platform called “XenSurvey.” XenSurvey can conduct GPS-precise network surveys in the field by harmonizing off-the-shelf 4G-capable Android (News - Alert) devices with a cloud-based administration system.
It was also reported that QLogic is offering FlexSuite 2600 Series adaptors. The adaptors provide a “dual- personality” that fits into current installations as a 16Gb Fiber Channel adapter, providing end-user field upgradeability to a 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE)-based converged network adapter (CNA) in the future.
TMCnet reported, too, that Aurora Networks, which is an optical access solution provider for cable operators, has achieved enhanced link performance, from its multi-wavelength transmitters to its smart node platform. Aurora can now offer 40 at 40 – 40 wavelengths of full spectrum transmission at 40 km reach – with no amplification, helping cables operators to achieve increase of capacity-per-subscriber over greater distances.
