Recently, Calix, Inc. announced it has officially acquired Ericsson’s (News - Alert) fiber access assets together with the implementation of the global reseller agreement between them, which came into place August 22, 2012.
The three-year reseller agreement allows Calix (News - Alert) to be Ericsson’s preferred global partner for broadband access applications, and permits Ericsson to sell Calix unified access systems and software, among other products, via Ericsson’s global sales channel, in 180 countries worldwide.
The deal is a goldmine for Calix since it will have at its disposal enormous international tier one customers, giving Calix the freedom to concentrate on tier-two and tier-three customers.
This does not, however, mean that Ericsson gets nothing out of the whole venture. The partnership lies on a transparent alignment of corporate strategy and direction that give it the power to exploit its strong points in wireless and end –to-end services.
Ericsson will no longer have to worry about fixed line broadband issues since Calix will be there to offer innovation and expertise.
Commenting on the partnership, Carl Russo, Calix president and CEO, gladly welcomed the newly secured customers aboard the Calix family. He went on to admit to the fact that the EA1500 GPON solutions augments on the already highly-decorated advanced fiber access solutions portfolio, and the company was keen on working with new customers as a result of the partnership with Ericsson.
Both Calix and Ericsson are giants in their domains of expertise. Ericsson is the world’s best provider for communications technology and services, while Calix is a reputable global provider of access innovation with a global unified access portfolio for broadband communications access systems and software that empowers service providers to join the pool of providers capable of deploying real-time broadband to its users.
Progress since the global reseller agreement between the two companies in August 22, 2012 has been impressive. We therefore have all reason to believe Calix and Ericsson have the potential to fully exploit the terms and conditions of the deal to the joy of their esteemed customers.
