Alpheus Communications Acquires Net Star Telecommunications
By Ed Silverstein
With the deal, Alpheus now has a customer base in Texas. Also, Net Star customers have more network facilities and services from which to choose, with the acquisition.
"While the core of our expansion strategy in 2012 is through organic growth of the enterprise market, we are committed to making opportunistic acquisitions that create network and infrastructure synergies for Alpheus," Alpheus CEO Scott Widham said in a company statement carried by TMCnet. “Bringing more customers onto our network is a win-win scenario where Alpheus gains operational scale while offering additional, affordably priced services to our customers."
Soon, Net Star services will be undertaken by Alpheus network and data center facilities.
Alpheus provides enterprises Metro Ethernet, MPLS, E-LAN, data center colocation and business-class voice solutions. These are used for mission-critical data, voice and video traffic, and connecting multiple locations.
Alpheus Communications provides fiber and networking solutions. The firm also supports mission-critical IT and cloud computing solutions.
In an analysis of the deal, the Houston Business Journal noted that Alpheus has rapidly expanded this year, adding Internet, voice and data center services, to its fiber enterprise services. With Net Star, Alpheus may now expand its enterprise network and add new customers, the Journal said.
“This transaction illustrates the industry trend of consolidating non-facility-based providers with facility-based providers like Alpheus,” Widham said in a statement on the HeraldOnline.
Alpheus Communications has facilities in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley.
“This latest network expansion was driven largely by customer demand to access more Texas markets on our network, so now we’re opening up additional markets and we’re always on the lookout for potential new markets,” Chip Robertson, senior vice president of carrier sales for Alpheus Communications, said in a recent statement. “Specific to South Texas, our customers will be able to leverage multiple Alpheus technologies to deliver Ethernet to businesses throughout the Rio Grande Valley while also using our network to haul traffic back to large metro markets throughout the state.”
