Silicon Image (News - Alert) explained that the new ‘Archer’ reference design made available for the UltraGig 6400, a wirelessHD transmitter for mobile device, can help OEMs seamlessly add the UltraGig 6400 to their reference designs and development systems.

By embedding the Archer module into mobile platforms, manufacturers would get the ability to quicken the time-to-market with new 60GHz-enabled products, employable for HD wireless video connection between portable devices and large displays.

Jim Chase, director of marketing of the wireless division at Silicon Image remarked, “The Archer module is an ideal solution for customers who want to add best-in-class 60GHz wireless video connectivity into their mobile devices. This solution enables WirelessHD capable smartphones and tablets powered by the UltraGig 6400 to be developed quickly and with minimal design effort.”

Notable features of the UltraGig 6400 transmitter include a 10x7mm package with a wireless network processor, RF transceiver and antenna array in a single compact unit; 1080p/60 HD video and multichannel audio, made possible via the 60GHz frequency band undisturbed by Wi-Fi interference; small form factor, low 500 mW power consumption and no CPU overhead; and more.

The archer module, which consists of the UltraGig 6400 single chip transmitter, will also include a secure, high-bandwidth video link to WirelessHD 1.1 compliant receivers and displays, without interference from Wi-Fi-based solutions, and will be available with a production-ready hardware design layout, drivers and embedded firmware that can be used for direct motherboard integration.

Recently, Silicon Image brought the latest in HD connectivity technology into the mainstream home theater market, as new port processors and the Silicon Image MHL solution were deployed via the Roku Streaming stick.
