Holocom and Fiber SenSys Announces Successful Evaluation of their Alarm Processor Units
By Shankar Pandiath
Holocom and Fiber SenSys, leading manufacturers of Protected Distribution Systems, recently announced that the U.S Army and Navy has successfully evaluated and approved their advanced HC508 and SL508 Alarm Processor (News - Alert) Units in San Diego, California.
The tests on the new alarm processor units were conducted by the members of the U.S Navy SPAWAR and U.S Army CTTA offices, and have been attributed directly to advanced technology solutions for Protected Distribution Systems.
Protection of the IT network is a prime concern in private organizations, even within the U.S Military at the Department of Defense. The core foundation of any network communications security initiative lies in ensuring that there is never a compromise with national security information.
With this view, Holocom and Fiber SenSys launched their Alarm Processor Units to function as a core component that can be used to alarm the raceway of circuit of information technology network.
The APUs delivers instant notification in cases of accidental intrusions, unauthorized access, or tapping attempts to secured information. When such Alarm Processor Units are combined with optical cut-off switches from Fiber SenSys, the system will provide multiple options for alarm notifications and an automatic positive network shutdown of the “affected protection zone.”
Both the APUs make the process of protecting Department of Defense networks more cost effective, and enhances its security via multiple network communications and annunciation capabilities. They also eliminate the process of visible inspection while securing the Protection Distribution System.
The APUs 508 were tested by the U.S Navy and Army with four cable carriers that include Holocom solid tube Secure Mini Dukt, Holocom 2x2 inch two-piece Secure Raceway, flexible interlocking-enabled fiber optic cable, and 1-inch steel EMT. Fiber SenSys SL508 and Fiber SenSys/Holocom co-branded HC508 delivers an additional layer of advanced protection to reinforce the carrier-protective distribution systems for high-security and government networks.
The new 1U 508 AOU fits any standard size rack and is essentially capable of protecting 8 zones of copper cable or fiber optic infrastructure. Each of these zones comprise of a single-strand sensing cable design that eliminates the requirements of a loop back cable in the cable carrier.
The system includes an advanced calibration and tuning software that eliminates alarms as well.
With an insensitive lead-in cable, the Alarm Processor Units can locate the Protection Distribution System at a significant distance away from the data center rack. It helps in locating the electronics in a single centralized area, while monitoring Protection Distribution System in a separate location.
With regard to successful evaluation of the APIs, Ed Tapanes, chief executive officer at Fiber SenSys, remarked that the company is overwhelmed to be engaged with Department of Defense Certifying Authorities for the evaluation of its important products.
