The use of Internet and broadband connectivity has increased significantly among Nigerians who are realizing the benefits of these tools in national development.

Connectivity empowers people in various spheres such as e-commerce, communicating with people, and also in enhancing social and business networks. New applications that can solve local problems can be developed, and all this can be achieved within the confines of the office or home. Developed countries leverage broadband and other technologies to improve their economic status.

Recently, MainOne, a provider of innovative telecom services and network solutions that serve the needs of businesses in West Africa, hosted a forum for prominent business concerns in Lagos to showcase its metro fiber connectivity solutions.

These solutions and the company’s optimized infrastructure help increase productivity and business profitability for clients. The company specializes in providing connectivity, managed media and data center services to connect Nigeria and West Africa to other countries.

Kelechukwu Nsofor, the head of enterprise sales at MainOne, emphasized the need for premium broadband Internet connectivity for businesses, which can be ensured by MainOne for all enterprises in Nigeria and West Africa.

The MainOne deployments are aimed at aiding business growth and also to achieve maximum broadband penetration across Nigeria. Enterprises which connect to MainOne’s newly expanded metro fiber network will benefit from the access they will get to business networking, and the scalability that can cover all their branches.

The newly launched metro fiber connectivity further extends its terrestrial fiber network across business districts in Lagos including Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Yaba, Ikeja, Surulere and Apapa.

MainOne strives to offer reliable and innovative services and also expand its coverage area for serving the needs of more customers. Soon it will be completing its Tier 3 (News - Alert) data center, planned to be a large commercial data center in West Africa. The data center houses a 600-rack capacity space and will be launched in the third quarter of 2014.

The broadband connectivity services offered by MainOne serve customers in various industries such as oil and gas, financial institutions and enterprises in addition to educational institutions and government agencies.

To ensure broadband access to more Nigerians, the federal government, through the Ministry of Communications Technology has launched a broadband campaign in Lagos. The broadband campaign, will complement the country’s five-year National Broadband Plan from 2013-2018 that was approved last year by the federal government, which seeks to make broadband available to all Nigerians by 2018.
